Chez Max, your traditional restaurant in Épernay (Magenta)

 Passed down from father to son, Chez Max is above all a family affair, built on a shared passion for authentic French cuisine.


Founded in 1946 by Monsieur Max, the restaurant was taken over in the 1970s by Monsieur Besnard and his wife, then passed on to their son in 1998. Over time, it has become a regional institution. Many came here as children… and return today as parents.


Located in the heart of the Champagne vineyards, along the banks of the Marne and near Épernay, Chez Max has been welcoming locals and visitors alike for nearly 80 years. Couples, families, friends – everyone has a memory tied to this place.


THE TASTE OF GOOD THINGS


In the kitchen, our team works with fresh, seasonal ingredients: mushrooms, squash, asparagus, strawberries, and even game make their way onto the menu depending on availability.


On the à la carte menu, you'll find French culinary classics – sweetbreads, Burgundy snails, duck foie gras, pig’s trotter – alongside regional specialties like Reims mustard, pink Champagne lentils, and Troyes cheese. We also take special pride in our sauces – true pillars of traditional French cooking.

Beyond the delicious food, people come to Chez Max for its unique spirit. In a warm, convivial setting and with attentive, French-style service, the tradition of the cheese trolley lives on, as does the art of tableside carving of meat and fish.
